“It’s nearly here, it’s a nervous wait till the weekend,” he said.
It is an understandable sentiment seeing that the Cronulla Sharks’ previous grand-final appearance was against the Broncos in the 1997 Super League.
It will also be the club’s first grand-final win and Provan-Summons Trophy since the club formed in 1967 should it topple minor premiers Melbourne.
O’Mara rates the Sharks’ chances highly, saying they have a good mix “from the old blokes’ experiences and younger guys’ energy”.
The electrician also said he agreed with Paul Gallen’s statement about a premiership meaning more than State of Origin wins.
“I like beating Queensland but I’d like to see Sharks win their first premiership more,” he said.
O’Mara will be watching at home. “It’s tough because I’m on call. There’s the high ticket prices, then you also have travel costs,” he said.
He will be sharing the couch and TV with his brother in law—a Storm supporter.
“That’s going to go down very well,” O’Mara said with a laugh.
He also added: “I also live with the girlfriend and her team is Parramatta. But her second team is the Sharks so she’s got no choice.”
