Recently, members of the Yass Valley Youth Council agreed that the main street could be improved by installing Fairy Lights in the Trees. Youth Council members hope that the lights will increase the aesthetics of the main street and help to extend the night-time economy.
The Youth Council approached the Yass Valley Business Chamber and a number of businesses have already offered to support the initiative.
“We are starting small and currently looking at the four trees that are located at the intersection of Comur and Meehan Streets, gradually expanding to the length of Comur Street over time,” Zeke, a Year 8 student at Yass High said. “We intend to present a report to the Council in October about the project and seek their approval to continue. To do this, we are seeking in-principle commitments of financial support towards the project”.
If any businesses or individuals would like to support this Youth initiative, please text the words “Christmas Lights” to 0418 405 489 and include your name and contact details.
