The NSW Sport and Recreation’s Office of Sport announced on Friday, October 14, the launch of its summer Swim and Survive program to run at various swimming pools across the state.

Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres said lessons catered for children aged 18 months to 12 years and provided everything from water awareness through to developing strokes and endurance.
“Swim and Survive is based on the Royal Life Saving Society’s national industry standard program and is taught by qualified instructors,” Mr Ayres said.
“Australians love the water and love swimming and the Swim and Survive program teaches vital water safety and swimming skills.
For more than 40 years, Sport and Recreation has delivered community-based learn to swim lessons.
Swim and Survive operates throughout regional NSW in communities where limited opportunities in learning to swim exist.
Run by the Office of Sport, the initiative is an intensive program, with most classes held over eight or nine consecutive week days.
“Swimming is not only fun and great exercise, it is also a potentially life-saving skill.
“Kids and parents will notice the results that come from the extra practice of a daily program,” Mr Ayres said.
Lessons are available for infants, pre-schoolers and primary school children.
People with special needs can also participate in Swim and Survive where specialist instructors are available.
All instructors are qualified and hold AUSTSWIM-accreditation (or equivalent) and a current Working With Children Check.
The program costs $50 for infant and preschool classes or $70 for school-age classes (sibling discounts available), plus pool entry fees.
