Club secures new wrecking ball
The Yass Magpies have secured the services of front rower Sam Sotogi for 2017. Sotogi will bring plenty of size and experience to the Magpies pack. He came over to Australia from NZ in 2011 playing first grade on the Gold Coast where he made the Queensland Samoa representative side three years running. That led to him playing for the Sunshine Coast Falcons in the Queensland Cup in 2015.

In that same year, he was selected in the Central Queensland representative side. Sotogi then moved to the Orange Hawks in 2016 where he made the group 10 all-stars team. He and his family moved to Canberra in September and are settling in well. Yass Magpies welcome him and his family to the club.
Line-up looks promising
Things are looking promising for the Yass Magpies this season after re-establishing themselves in the Canberra Raiders Cup in 2016. The majority of players have either re-signed or committed to the club in 2017.
Josh Newling, 2016 best and fairest, has re-signed with the club, which is a massive boost after his sensational form last year. He is joined by workhorse back rowers Shaun Davis and Josh Hall who will look to build on last year’s success. Consistent fullback Andrew Swaffield will again take his place.
After solid debut seasons, Mitch Edwards and promising junior Kyle Danilczak are on board and in good shape. James Rousell will return from a serious wrist injury that kept him out of the second half of 2016.
Also back from the casualty ward are hookers Brad Wylie and Ben Warner who missed the entire season. Another hooker Ben Griffin has also re-signed, creating even more depth for the magpies. Matt Barnden will return from his shoulder injury and calm halfback Matt Lawrence has also re-signed with the club.
