The Buffaloes went into bat first and ended with 7/177 from its 45.0 overs. Opener David Brown top scored with 60 runs – the only player to score a fifty in the round. He stayed at the crease almost until the end of the innings. Fellow batsmen all contributed with Matthew Clifton scoring the second-highest with 25 while Beau O’Mara was the only one with a single-digit score (six). The Buffaloes were helped with 19 extras from the Piranhas, including 11 no balls.
It was a solid performance by all Piranhas bowlers. David Brown, Beau Walker, Anthony O’Mara and Nathan Schofield picked up two wickets each. In reply, however, the Piranhas’ batsmen failed to capitalise on their bowling and fielding performances, finishing at 9/93.
Dingoes secure low-scoring victory
Meanwhile at Gundaroo Oval, it was also a low-scoring match where the Dalton Dingoes managed a comfortable victory over the Gundaroo Gunners. The Dingoes, after losing two early wickets—Jess Canberra and Neil Corby—ended with 115. Brent Poidevin tried his best to steady the innings with a respectable 36 runs—the top for Dalton. However, with two ducks in the middle order, it was going to be difficult to set a high score.
Fortunately for the Dingoes, Troy Pye bowled his way to a five-wicket haul (5/36) from his eight overs to restrict the Gunners to only 57 runs in their chase. Jayke Poidevin assisted with a solid figure of 3/16 from only 4.4 overs.
With four rounds remaining before the finals, only 15 points separate second and sixth places in the Triggs Shield while only nine separates first and sixth in the Sweeney Cup.
