Crime trends across the Yass Valley Region (YVR) in the 24 months to September 2016 remained mostly stable, reflecting those across NSW. The latest data comes from the Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOSCAR), released on December 6, 2016. NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione said the crime figures reflect the hard work of the NSW Police Force to ensure public safety and prevent crime.

“I welcome the latest crime data as the men and women of the NSW Police Force continue to work tirelessly to keep the people of NSW safe and secure,” he said.
Trends for assault, theft, malicious damage to property, offences against procedures, drug offences all remained stable for YVR. The rate of incidents of assault is about half of NSW’s in 2015 and 2016. The rate in drug offences in YVR, however, were higher than the state’s. In 2015, it was 1014.2 against NSW’s 755.8; 2016 was 1108.5 against NSW’s 842.9.
Theft and malicious damage to property went down in trend for NSW (2.2 per cent and 2.4 percent, respectively) but not for YVR, which remained stable. The YVR rate for theft remained less than those of the state’s. Across the state, however, only offences against justice procedures increased (8.7 per cent).
Member for Goulburn Pru Goward commended police in the Hume Local Area Command for their exceptional work in fighting crime. Ms Goward said that the most recent data is a testament to the proactive work of local police in detecting and preventing crime.
“This latest data from BOCSAR reflects the commitment and dedication of our local police to keeping our community safe,” she said.
