A company spokesman said Infigen had instructed employees and contractors to cease all work at the wind farms until further notice. Skeleton staff remain at the site office to monitor the situation.
“Fire-fighting resources in the region are under pressure. The weather forecast is currently for a change in wind direction, which could potentially direct the fire front towards the wind farms later today,” the spokesperson said.
Part of Tarago Road connecting the Capital and Woodlawn wind farms remains inaccessible due to the Currandooley fore which started on the Capital Wind farm site on Tuesday morning..
“In these circumstances, Infigen has determined that the appropriate course of action is to temporarily close wind farm operations until conditions improve,” the spokesperson said.
“Infigen will support investigations into the cause of the fire when those investigations commence.
Our thoughts are with those affected by the fire and we hope the community and emergency service personnel stay safe.”
