Mark Anthony Atkinson, 51, of Yass, came before Yass Local Court charged with being an unlicensed driver. Atkinson drove a motor vehicle north along Ford Street at 7.30pm on Friday, November 18, 2016. Police travelled past him and turned around with the intention of stopping the car for the purpose of a random breath test. Police believed Atkinson did not hold a current driver’s licence. He turned into a driveway and parked. Police asked Atkinson if he had a driver’s licence to which he replied, “No, never have. I was just too lazy to walk.” Checks were conducted and revealed he has never held a driver’s licence in any State or Territory. Atkinson was fined $500 by Magistrate Mark Douglass.
