While students won’t start returning to school until Monday, school zones will be operational from Friday.
“Many Yass Valley children will be starting their first day of school next week, a very overwhelming experience, and with so many factors to take into consideration they are extremely vulnerable when it comes to the busy traffic situation in and around our schools,” Mayor Rowena Abbey said.
“With school communities growing each year, school pick up and drop off areas are becoming busier,” Derryth Nash the Yass Valley Council’s Road Safety Officer said.
Drivers are reminded that 40km/h speed zones around school buses are also enforceable. School zones are operational 8am-9:30am and 2:30pm-4pm with a regulatory speed limit of 40km/h on gazetted school days. Double demerit points apply this weekend.
