Membership of the club is highly sought after and students even volunteer to sacrifice some of their lunch break so they can chip away at their coding projects.
“Last year we ran an elective on computer coding and teachers nominated students with a particular interest and skill in the area,” assistant principal, Malena Gerstenberg said.
“This year we have about 50 students interested so we are running lunch time coding clubs for beginner and experienced coders. Some of them have become the masters and are now teaching the other students, and the teachers.”
Students in Years 3 to 6 have been using an online program, which develops coding to program robots to follow sequences of movement.
They have also been coding their own computer games and editing videos.
“They are developing skills for the future and problem solving along the way,” Ms Gerstenberg said.
