While elated to have won after three two-minute rounds, Spider said he could still improve.
“Personally, I was not happy with my performance. I guess I'm very critical of myself. I was given the decision but, most importantly, I got to see what I need to do to produce a better performance in my next bout,” he said.
Spider also paid tribute to his opponent for the challenge.
“Paul fought really well and certainly came to fight. He was aggressive and fought much of the fight on the front foot. He nullified my in-fighting and made me work hard every minute of the bout.”
Meanwhile, Covi praised Spider’s effort in coming back into the ring.
“You fought really well and won a close fight, congratulations. I'm looking forward to the rematch with you. You’re a gentleman out of the ring,” he said.
Both boxers are training for the Australian Masters Titles in Tasmania in October 2017. In the short-term, Spider is gearing up for his next fight on Saturday, February 25 in Dee Why against Mark Kleynjan—the current Ringside 75kg world champion.
Spider thanks Peter Angelos at Alliance Building Group and Antony Jukic at ACN Electrical for their support.
