Coming three weeks after the grand finals, the awards will recognise various achievements during the season across all divisions.
“We’re happy with how the season unfolded, each premiership was keenly contested. One of the most pleasing outcomes was that five towns were represented in the grand finals,” YDCA President David O’Brien said.
Those towns are Binalong, Boorowa, Harden, Murrumbateman and Yass.
O’Brien also praised those who work behind the scenes.
“Credit goes to the volunteers in those towns for working tirelessly to provide cricket for their communities.”
The president said the quality of the cricket is on the rise.
“The quality of cricket is continuing to build as evidenced by our representative team reaching the final of the statewide Country Plate and the closeness of the Triggs Shield finals series,” O’Brien said.
The main awards to be presented:
- Senior Representative Cricketer of the Year
- Merv Feeney Trophy – Triggs Shield Player of the Year
- David Ledger Trophy – Triggs Shield Bowling
- Stan Kelly Trophy – Triggs Shield Batting
- Royal Hotel Trophies for Sweeney Cup Batting and Bowling
- Geoff Emmerton Sweeney Cup Player of the Year
- Premiership medallions for the Triggs Shield, Sweeney Cup and Soldiers Club Shield
- Distinguished Service Awards (to be revealed on the night)
The evening will culminate in the Triggs Shield player of the year and the presentation of premiership medals to players from YGC Snipers, Harden and Binalong – respective winners of A–C grade grand finals.
Following presentation night, YDCA will begin planning for the 2017-18 season.
“We’ll take a quick breath, tidy up a few loose ends and began thinking immediately about next season,” O’Brien said.
This includes consideration of holding the AGM in late July or early August. The YDCA will be keen for fresh ideas and fresh faces, particularly at the junior level.
Tickets to the awards night are $35 each and numbers need to be in by Sunday evening (for catering purposes). Those interested can contact their team delegates or yassdca@gmail.com.
Mr O’Brien encourages players to attend to ensure teams are well represented. The YDCA looks forward to seeing its life members and cricketing patrons.
