Well, what a week for the Yass Club at the Albury Australian Junior Classic Polocrosse Carnival on April 14-16. There were plenty of achievements and new skills learned and not just for the kids.

Ryan and Jake and their team (NSW 3) dominated their competition, winning division three.
In the Broze Bit, Samantha's Blue Team were unlucky not to get a win despite some close matches and the Red Team (Tara, Shayne, Tegan and Rachel) got a win against Samantha's team. However, they went down to the Albury side under lights on Friday night, which set up a tough semi-final on Sunday.
Unfortunately the other side was too strong and they went on to win the competition. All the girls had a great time playing against and with different people. Special mention to Moose for coaching the Red Team and Cath for organising everyone.
Riley and Liv got runners-up in the A Grade Subbies and Riley won best overall subbie. Cameron, Rainer and Johnnie got runners-up in the B Grade.
The Yass 1 boys got runners-up in the B Open and Yass 2 had a tough weekend in the C Mixed.
On April 21–23, it is Barastoc time. We wish Gorm and Epeli all the best for a successful campaign in Warwick. We think they will have a rather large Yass support crew. Might see you there.
Yass teams shine at Eurocoast Carnival
On April 8–9, the Yass Club headed to the other side of Moruya for the annual Eurocoast carnival. With only 16 teams competing, it made for a very relaxing and enjoyable weekend.
Eurocast is famous for it’s polocrosse and its seafood options in the canteen and Saturday night dinner. The crocodile races for evening entertainment are also quite special.
While Yass was only able to field two teams, both made it to the finals, but came away runners up to Eurocoast in the A grade final and runners up to Milton in the C Grade. Seems the coast-based clubs may have had home some ground advantage.
Highlights were Alex Grant winning Best C Grade Horse on his green horse, “Magnum”, and watching Olivia Erland, still in the sub juniors (under 12), play in her first Open C Grade competition. Olivia shone all weekend and will no doubt be a player to watch out for in the future.
Thankfully the storms held off till end of play and presentations, but not quite long enough to get back home over the mountain.
Numbers may have been down due the busiest month of non-stop polocrosse action in 2017. The Albury Junior Classic started on April 11, with a week of coaching, followed by the elite Women’s Silver Stirrup and Bronze Bit Competitions.
Albury Club’s carnival was also held on April 15–16, and action in Queensland with the Barastoc and international test series starting April 20. To follow the club on Facebook: http://bit.ly/2p9x65H.
