Sandra Johnson and Margaret Hunter OAM from Yass-based Elizabethfields Murray Grey Stud have dominated the beef cattle competition at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.

The pair’s cow – Elizabethfields Jeanette H10 – and calf took home a handful of awards:
- Murray Grey Senior Champion Female
- Murray Grey Grand Champion Female
- Murray Grey The Manooka Perpetual Trophy for the Grand Champion Female
- Murray Grey Best Exhibit awards
The trifecta in the female champion awards is the sixth time (out of 12) that Ms Johnson and Ms Hunter have achieved the accolade.
Speaking to the Tribune, Ms Hunter said the trifecta was reward for their hard work.
“Our breeding is second to none. We have a very specific criteria, which includes being perfect structurally and having good feet and good testicular development in our bulls,” she said.
Ms Hunter also praised Ms Johnson for her work, as well as citing previous wins as testaments.
“Sandy does all the breeding and we breed animals that are top quality. We’ve proven this, winning in major shows like Sydney and Melbourne, as well as supreme exhibits and interbreed championships.”
Judge Jasmine Nixon from Summit Livestock, Wagga Wagga, in speaking to The Land, said the overall structure of the cow was outstanding, with high capacity muscle and carcase attributes.
The pair’s first show was in 2006, which led to wins at various regional shows, including Yass, Braidwood and Crookwell.
Asked about future goals, Ms Hunter said their next big show will be in Crookwell and Canberra. “One of our heifers won junior at the 2016 Canberra Show and should be a mother for the 2018 Show,” she said.
