The team will consist of 22 registered players from 17–34 years of age. Team manager Mell Beck said players come from Yass, Harden, Binalong and even Wagga Wagga.
“A couple of them have played in the junior competition last year, but most of them are new to the game. We’ve got four girls in the team who also play for the Raiders representative side – including the two from Wagga,” she said.
The team is coached by Chris Rawlinson (Magpies’ first-grade coach) and Jesse Collins (first-grade player).
Ms Beck said the players are keen to get on the field. “They’re so keen on finally playing. They’re feeling pumped and enthusiastic,” she said.
Speaking to the CRRL, Yass player Allie Beck – who is playing rugby league for the first time – said the girls were very excited.
“Yass is very excited to finally get an open’s rugby league team to join the competition and get our name out there, so it’s good,” she said.
“We had an under 18s team last year, so it’s great that we can finally get numbers to create an open’s team and join the boys.”
The team began training in February in preparations for their season opener against Queanbeyan United Blues in Queanbeyan on April 28.
