Despite carrying some injuries into the PCYC King of the Ring Championships in Blacktown on Saturday, April 22, Spider secured a strong victory in his bout against 43-year-old Paul Winston from Wollongong. “I boxed well, by far my best performance since making my comeback. Starting to get back into the rhythm of boxing competitively,” he said.

On the night, Spider also met an idol of his: former world champion Nigel Benn (otherwise known as the Dark Destroyer) before and after his fight.
”He is a legend in boxing and I was privileged to have met him. I actually got caught with a good shot by my opponent, Paul Winston, and all I could think was ‘I can't lose in front of the Dark Destroyer’,” he said.
Spider left on Thursday, April 27 for the Gold Coast to compete in the Queensland Masters titles.
“I'm going to have a very hard time as my first fight is with Bevan Connor, a 100-fight veteran. He has a massive amount of experience, far greater than mine in the ring. But he is a man with two arms, two legs and a single heartbeat, just like me,” Spider said.
“It would be something special for me to get a victory over an opponent of that calibre. I will be trying hard to bring a title back to Yass.”
Spider thanks Peter Angelos of Alliance Building Group, Antony Jukic of ACN Electrical and Robbo’s Gym for their ongoing support.
