The Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) is a legislative requirement of the NSW Disability Inclusion Act (2014) and aims to demonstrate the council’s commitment to people living with a disability in our community.
Mayor Rowena Abbey said council has made some tangible improvements, including pram and wheelchair ramps for footpaths, the Munnagai Yerribi accessible walking track and accessible toilets and playgrounds.
“But this is just the start and more needs to be done,” she said.
During the community consultation period council will be engaging with targeted community groups, as well as the wider community. This engagement process will ensure that the plan will take into consideration the feedback given by businesses and community members, as well as people with a disability and their carers.
Strategies are expected to include actions associated with the following:
- Providing improved access to Council buildings, events and facilities.
- Providing improved access to Council information.
- Further supporting employment of people with disability.
