In the process, they helped raised about $10,000, nearly twice as much as the amount in 2016, its inaugural year. Michelle Waters, Duncan’s mother, said the feedback from attendees had been “amazing”.
“We’re pretty happy with outcome. I think ultimately, though, why we have the bonfire and fireworks shouldn’t be forgotten: that is, to increase awareness of the cancer,” she said.
Duncan’s sister, Kylie Baker, thanked everyone involved. “This could not have been achieved without the support of the community and all our sponsors and our amazing family. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart,” she said.
The funds raised went to Yass Hospital and Red Kite, an Australian cancer charity that supports children and young people with cancer and their families.
