Strong tackling by Charlie Clarke and Harry Donoghue early, Jed Newman works hard in defence. He and Charlie Clarke were unlucky not to score.
The teams were well matched, but the mighty Whites more consistent across the quarters. Team award to Taylah Isbister.
Kaveney’s Earthmoving U6s Black
The Yass Magpies received the kick off and were instantly strong in attack. Sid Luckie did not waste any time, scoring the first try of the game with a full length run of the field.
Charlie Jamieson scored a quick and impressive try and Jaiden Ings first showed off his strong tackling skills before scoring another try for the Magpies. Billy Buser was quick off the mark to chase down Sharks and tackle them.
Cooper Downey ran the full length of the field to put the ball down over the line and add another try to the scoresheet for Yass. Lochie Ings displayed his fast footwork and scored another try after the tap restart. Cooper was consistently strong in defence and Oscar Walsh-Devoe had some great hit ups in his debut game. Lochie was on fire, scoring another try before half time.
Sid outrun the sharks with his fast weaves down the field and on the next tackle Charlie pushed through the pack to score a try. Jaiden scored yet another try and Charlie had some fantastic tackles.
Ashton Curtis had a strong hit up and was quick off the line in defence.
The sharks came out firing in the final quarter but the Magpies remained committed. Sid and Billy worked together to tackle the opposition and Lochie and Charlie were also super strong in defence.
Sid put more points on the board as well as Billy with a super fast run to try line. Final score was 44–24.
Tries: Lochie 3, Sid 2, Charlie 2, Jaiden 2, Cooper 1, Billy 1
Player of the week: Sid Luckie
Kaveney’s Earthmoving Under 6s Grey
The U6s grey defeated U6 North Canberra Bears Black 36–32 at the Bears’ home ground. A massive five tries to Tai, two apiece to Lucas and Trae.
Pateman Power Solutions Under 8s
The Pateman Power Solutions U8s took on the Gungahlin Bulls Red and went down narrowly 42–38. The boys defence let them down, so this week there has been lots of running up to the tackle bags and encouragement not to let the players come to them making ground along the way.
Sutherland Holliday, Jack Ryan and George Foran were standouts in the game in attack with all three players scoring two tries and kicking conversions. Takai Chatfield also crossed the line for a try and converted his own goal.
Jack Jamieson was on fire in defence and made some great tackles to earn him player of the day.
William Hall and Alex Bell were also strong in defence. Brodie Poidevin Warden made a couple of good strong runs. Liam Beeten, Tyler Smith and Brock Lenon were all fantastic in support of their team always getting in and having a go. Better luck next week boys.
Fire and Rescue NSW Yass Under 9s
The U9 Magpies took to the field this week against the Tuggeranong Valley Dragons. It was a very exciting game to watch with the lead constantly changing hands throughout the whole game.
The Magpies played an awesome game with tries going to Sam Hewett, Lochie Houssenloge, Will Mihaljevic and five to Jett McGrath. Max Buser and Will Mihaljevic both making conversions.
The kids showed great team work and fantastic attitudes in the much anticipated 36–32 win. Player of the Day was Jett McGrath for his outstanding runs and five tries.
The standout player today was Logan Waters who really put his body on the line with some awesome tackles.
Tanks Bakery Under 10s
The U10s played Queanbeyan Roos on May 21 at Freebody. Both teams were unbeaten so it promised to be a close game unlike the last two blowouts the young pies have had.
Yass scored early and looked on top but failed to defend like previous games and the game quickly became an attacking showpiece. Sadly no defence highlights apart from a Will Downey special that saw him leave the field groggy. He was able to make the second half, however.
Jaylen Bell took up where he left off last week scoring three individual tries while adding the extras on one of those tries thus taking player of the match spoils.
Connor Shepherd helped himself to two tries of his own and nailed his kick at goal. Kyle Shoard added a try to his tally and managed a goal to boot.
Sean Bell was a tower of strength in the middle of the field always stopping the Roos big men in their tracks and also was able to cross the try line in his most complete game to date.
Jayda Danilczak, Baxton Lane and Hunter Stansfield were all successful in kicking a conversion that helped us to reach 40 points.
Unfortunately, the opposition after scoring on the bell were able to get to 42 points after they converted the try to take the chocolates in this contest.
The team will need to work on teamwork in defence at training as we were guilty of leaving holes across our line everywhere with kids not moving forward.
Next game at Yass against Goulburn at 9.50am on Sunday, May 28.
Amaroo Coloured Wool Under 11s
The U11s travelled to Gordon to take on the South Tuggeranong Knights. Our boys put the pressure on the Knights, forcing errors right from the kick-off. Ben “Roosta” Martens powered through for a try under the posts in the opening minutes.
Tony Davis and Dane Howard were excellent in attack, making good ground with each hit-up. The little Maggies kept up the good work with Lucas McPherson crashing over for a short-range try before half-time.
The team, as a whole, stepped up in defence. With everybody putting in the tackles it’s hard to single out individual players. Logan Blundell and Charlie Hall topped the tackle count.
In the second half, Lucas McPherson took on the line and split them up the middle to duck through for another try. The full-time score was 18–12 in favour of Yass.
Tries to Ben Martens and Lucas McPherson (2). Goals to Brad Barber, Dane Howard and Lucas McPherson. Man of the Match went to “Roosta” Martens.
Yass Golf Club Under 12s
The U12s played away last Sunday in Curtin, against a very strong and well drilled Woden Weston Team.
Yass was lead out by Captain Lane Davis with all the boys being ready for a big game. Unfortunately some strong attack by the Rams broke through our defence line, then again shortly after a similar try was also scored.
Going into the break, Yass was three tries down at 18–0. However it was not for a lack of trying from Yass. The second half was very similar to the first half, with the opposition putting a further three tries on the board, providing a final score of 34–0.
A special mention needs to go to Cody, who showed some real brilliance in attack. Well done, Cody. Both Lane Noah contributed hugely to the tackle count – well done. And well done to all boys, you can hold your head up for trying hard. Thanks to Jai our coach once again.
Chris and Mell Beck Tree Removalists Under 14s
The U14s took on Crookwell at Northbourne Oval. Half time score 14–10 to Yass. Fulltime score 32–14 to Yass.
Jerome McGrath scored two tries and Jamie Howlett, Josh Sykes, Patrick McPhillips, Tom Bell and Kaiden Bell all bagged one each. Kaiden Bell converted two tries.
Coach Collins was very satisfied with the completion of 13 out of 17 sets with the ball. Player of the match went to Tom Bell.
Bezzy’s Garden Services Under 15s
The U15s won 40–0 against the Shark Bulls, playing with only 10 players. Two tries to Jack, Josh and Joel. One try to Jayden and Riley.
Hi-Way Motor Inn Under 16s
The U16s travelled to Queanbeyan last Friday to tackle the Kangaroos. On a bleak evening, the Magpies hit the ground running with tries by Blake Morschel, Richard Maher, Cian Ebert and Blake Watson before the Roos scored on the bell for a 20–6 half-time score.
The Roos then scored the opening try of the second half before the Magpies steadied the ship and eventually recorded a solid 38-16 victory.
In a solid team effort the best for Yass were Tyler Waters and Tom Skillin in the front row, halves Cian Ebert and Blake Morschel, as well as fullback Richard Maher. This Friday, the U16s host the Valley Dragons at Walker Park with a 6.30pm kickoff.
Worthy Diesel Repairs Under 17s Girls
The U17 girls played a hard physical game but went down 48–0. Everyone should be proud of their efforts.
