Lisa Bridgett had attended the Ariana Grande concert with her daughter and her daughter's friend, and was in the arena's foyer talking on her mobile phone when the bomber, Salman Abedi, detonated a powerful explosive that had been packed with metal nuts and screws.

Ms Bridgett's husband, Steve, said a metal nut first struck his wife's finger, then her phone, before piercing her cheek and lodging in her nose.

Ms Bridgett lost her middle finger in the blast and suffered a range of other injuries, including a large shrapnel wound to her thigh and a broken ankle.

"The fact she was on her phone at the time [has] probably saved her life," Mr Bridgett wrote on Facebook, alongside images of his wife's shattered iPhone, which was streaked with blood.

"The nut has hit her phone which has more than likely not only diverted it, but also slowed it down considerably."

"Her nose is fine as the nut entered through her cheek, so just a scar to deal with."

He also posted a photograph of his wife's shoe, containing a pool of blood and a piece of metal shrapnel.

"Lisa is in a positive mood and feels very lucky to be alive, witnessing first hand what could of been," he said.

"This may seem a bit graphic but at the end of the day it's a reality...she will make a full recovery although I don't think the finger will grow back!"

He also thanked Peter, a steward at the arena, who had helped his wife to safety in the moments after the blast, and to the police and medical staff who had treated her.

He had spoken to Peter since the attack, and planned to meet up with him to thank him in person.

"Onwards and upwards.....she'll soon be propping the bar up again! Thank you for everyone's wishes and offers of support....it means a lot xxx."
