Facing off against the first-placed side, the Magpies couldn’t prevent the visitors from scoring two quick tries in the first ten minutes of the game.
Although the home team fought valiantly, their lack of energy early in both halves cost them, and it was the focus of coach Jesse Collins’ half-time address.
“I made a point about intensity,” Collins said, “it wasn’t there at the start, and that’s why we let in those couple of early tries. But we really picked it up again at the end of that first half, and I think they'll come out and be a lot more intense this second half.”
Collins’ words were in vain, however, as Queanbeyan scored quickly after the break. Despite one more hard-earned try from the Magpies, they could not close the gap, and the match finished at 16-10.
Yass now has four wins and two losses after round six, and will sit out the next round with a bye.
