Both boys compete in motocross and enduro racing.
They also play football, tennis, and soccer, but according to their father, Ross, they chose not to pursue other sports in the last year in order to focus on their riding.
Rory, 9, has enjoyed more success than older brother Riley, 13, but their father believes that the playing field is leveling between the two.
“Riley’s had a better year this year than Rory,” Ross said. “Rory’s had a couple of crashes this year and missed out a couple of times.
“And Riley’s stepped it up this year, and going better this year.
“But then last year Rory couldn’t lose wherever he went.”
‘Couldn’t lose’ might be an understatement as far as Rory is concerned.
Just a few of his accolades for 2016 included:
ACT 50cc Division 2 champion and overall junior highest point scorer, ACT 65cc 7-9yrs Runner-up.
Riverina Inter-club Championships MX: 50cc Division 2 champion, 65cc runner-up, Young MCC Championships MX, 50cc Division 2 Champion, overall Junior Club Champion, 65cc 7-9yrs runner-up.
2016 Leaping Log Super Series: 50cc Division 2 champion, undefeated and overall Junior Series Champion.
Meanwhile Riley, while slightly less prosperous than his brother, also took home his fair share of distinctions:
2nd place 65cc 10-12 years (Young), 3rd place 85cc 9-12 years (Young), 2nd place 65cc 10-12 years (ACT), 3rd place 85cc 9-12 years (ACT), 2nd place 65cc 10-12 years Riverina Interclub Challenge MX, 1st place 65cc 10-12 years Riverina Interclub Challenge Enduro, and he also competed at the NSW State Titles.
While both boys are still too young for most to confidently predict whether or not they can make it as professionals, their father is assured of their abilities.
“If they could get somewhere to train all the time, train through the week they’d be laughing,” Ross said.
The Arabin boys are natural riders according to their father, having both ridden since the age of three, and been competing for the last four years.
Their only impediment is the lack of a training facility in or close to Yass which the pair can use.
“This year we’ve been going to Mudgee. They race at Mudgee on Saturdays, and there’s a ride park there, so we go there the Sunday and do a day’s training.
“But there’s sort of nowhere close that you can train, so that’s the hard part.”
“You can go to Canberra but … by the time the kids get home from school you can’t get there in time.”
Rory and Riley have each been nominated in the junior category for the Sports Awards.
The winners of the awards will be announced on July 29.
