The opportunity came courtesy of the Country Education Foundation (CEF) and aims to expose rural and regional students to tertiary education options.
Ms Ede said she grabbed the chance to apply when the high school announced the opening of applications.
Asked about what she looked forward to the most, Ms Ede said it was the taste of university life.
“I hope to experience going to university in a city because I’ve been in Yass my whole life,” she said.
Ms Ede said that after high school, she would be interested in studying psychology or forensic science.
CEF staff and volunteers will travel with the high school students to the campus.
The Yass CEF branch is one of 43 each year to raise funds, awareness and support their youth to gain the same opportunities as their city counterparts.
The local foundations’ work is then supported by education and corporate partnerships, as CEF receives no government support and is a not-for-profit organisation.
“Our education partners build on our mission to close the education gap that exists between our rural and regional students, and this cannot be under estimated,” CEF CEO Wendy Cohen said.
In 2017, CEF has helped 475 students begin their education, training and career journeys across the country.
This support has totalled more than $1 million with thanks to CEF’s education partners, community-based committees and corporate sponsors.
Swinburne, as one of CEF’s newest education partners in 2017, pledged to boost financial support for CEF’s rural and regional students. Part of this funding is being used to host this excursion to Swinburne.
Anthony Gartner, Swinburne’s manager of Student Equity and AccessAbility Service, said the university was pleased to continue working with the CEF to assist disadvantaged kids from rural and regional areas to attend university.
