Against a Blues side which featured Terry Campese, the Magpies’ defense looked brittle and unsure of itself.
The first half featured several runaway tries for Queanbeyan, as the Magpies attempted to solidify but were unable to keep up with the coordinated machine running at them.
Campese was in good form, and boasted five conversions by half time as he slotted goal after goal with ease.
After the first buzzer, the Magpies faced a deficit of 0 – 30, against what seemed an insatiable Queanbeyan forward pack.
However, the Magpies did what they do so well and rallied, producing a respectable second half.
Junior Vatikani managed to break through the Blues’ defense and cross for Yass’s solitary try of the afternoon, which was then converted.
The match finished with Magpies in arrears 6 – 52, but they fought vigorously in the second half against the number one side.
