Over the last few weeks I have read several articles in various papers about the numbers of drink drivers, drug drivers and speeding drivers in our area.

Although it is disappointing to see so many drivers doing the wrong thing, and some are clearly just not getting the message, what is not discussed in these articles is the areas being identified are some of the major arteries of our state, being used by many thousands of drivers.
The articles also do not highlight that these results reflect the good work our local police are doing to identify and stop these drivers.
Our police are tasked daily to monitor our roads, a task they are clearly conducting thoroughly.
We consistently return some of the highest numbers of random breath and drug tests conducted throughout our State.
The majority of those drivers being caught do not come from our local area.
We also have two Corrective Service facilities in our area that we target fairly heavily as well, which also add to those numbers.
So all in all, although disappointed with the overall numbers of those doing the wrong thing, these results also reflect that the chances of being caught in our area are comparatively very high.
We held an operation last week targeting our licensed premises, and once again very little to report, which is very pleasing.
There weren't that many out and about, perhaps something to do with the below freezing temperatures in our area over the weekend.
Most of those who braved the conditions were very well behaved and were drinking responsibly.
Unfortunately, flowing on from what I said earlier, we did charge several people for drink driving across our community.
Some were caught on our main roads however there were also several caught on our back roads, one late on Saturday night in Bungonia.
This is yet another example that if you take the risk to drink and driver, no matter where you are, the chances are you will get caught.
Until next week please take care and drive responsibly.
