The event is being organised by Jen Hudson, who was diagnosed with melanoma three years ago.
She said her inspiration for the event came about not only as a result of her own brush with cancer, but a chat with one of her children’s school friends.
“My kids are teenagers, and I spoke to one of their friends who told me that she was a member of CanTeen and how her father had died a few years ago,” Ms Hudson said.
“And she was telling me how important it was for her to be a member of that, and how it meant that she was seeing people who understood what she was going through and … she was able to do that for other people as well.
“So that inspired me to want to do the fundraising for CanTeen.”
The night will not only include trivia, but also a raffle and an auction for several valuable items.
Included among these prizes are a signed Wallabies jersey, a fitbit, a BMX bike, a meat tray, hand-blown glass figurines, a trailer full of wood, and many more items, and the list has not yet been finalised.
The evening is to take place on September 9, beginning at 7pm.
The theme of the night will be ‘pirates’ and Ms Hudson encourages those attending to dress up in their most swashbuckling attire.
Ms Hudson has had quite a positive reception to the event thus far, but is hoping for more official confirmation from members of the public soon.
“Heaps of people are telling me ‘Yes, I’m gonna come’, but I haven’t sold that many tickets despite the fact that lots of people are telling me they’re coming,” she said.
“I think I’ll be much less anxious when I actually see people walking through the door.”
