Division 10 drew 2–2 with Belnorth FC while division three and four lost to ANU 2–3 and 1–4, respectively.
Divisions three and 10 finished third on the ladder putting them in the finals series while division four finished sixth.
In division four, ANU scored the opening goal after a few minutes of play, with dominant plays in the middle. Some pressured attack by ANU resulted in another goal via a cross at close range for a tap in.
The Redbacks, however, regrouped and played well defensively to hold off more shots from the men in blue and white.
The home side also had a few unconverted shots at goal towards the end of the half, but It was ANU who scored the third goal of the game to lead 3–0 at half-time.
The team’s doing well, considering they beat us 12–0 last time in Canberra.
- Grant Taylor, coach
During the break, coach Grant Taylor said that while it was much more preferable to lead, he was satisifed so far with the performance.
“The team’s doing well, considering they beat us 12–0 last time in Canberra”.
“Plus, they’re running slightly uphill in the second half, so we’ll try to make the most of it,” he said.
Which they did. The second half was 1–1. The Redbacks came out firing, with the first couple of shots at goal. The first went too high while the second would have been a goal had it not been for an ANU defender on the line.
ANU then fought back and had the next few shots at goal. They then made a break where it was three attackers against the sole Redbacks defender and goal keeper.
With all the time in the world, ANU slotted it in to lead 4–0. It could have been 5–0 a short time later when ANU had another close shot at goal but Yass’ goal keeper saved it with a deflection.
Late in the game, the Redbacks drew one back courtesy of Paul Jephcott, slotting one into the bottom left after a cross.
