The idea of Light Up The Valley stems from the previously held ‘Night In The Lane’ festival, where the youth of the valley entertained Yass Valley residents with their musical talents.
But instead of only allowing musicians to perform, Light Up The Valley will be giving youth the opportunity to showcase whatever talent they have, from more traditional acts, such as singing and dance, to the less common, such as slam poetry and circus.
The youth of the valley are the future of this community...
In 2017, the Light Up The Valley committee has decided to run the talent fest in three towns around the region so that every youth has more opportunity to be involved in what should be an amazing event.
This year, the venues and dates for Light Up The Valley are:
- Bowning Pub, Bowning, September 1
- Four Winds Vineyard, Murrumbateman, September 8
- Thyme To Taste, Yass, September 15
Light Up The Valley is run by youth for youth. This year the committee includes Yass Valley Youth Council members Lizzy Veasey, Jess Keating, Cr Nathan Furry and myself.
We are all dedicated to making sure the youth of Yass Valley have a voice and a say in what happens within the community. Light Up The Valley is a vital way to give youth just such a voice.
The youth of the valley are the future of this community. Given the opportunity, we want to make sure all youth feel included and encouraged with everything they do.
General admission tickets to Light Up The Valley are now on sale through Eventbrite, with the link available via the Yass Valley Youth Facebook page.
Performer application forms are also available through the Yass Valley Youth Facebook page as well as the Yass High School front office, Thyme To Taste, and Tootsies.
Application forms should be returned to venues or by email no late than Friday, August 25.
