Harrison Waters has been a prolific try scorer and tackler and uses a change of direction to pick the gaps.
Noah Hall has been very fast who can wrong foot the defence using swerves and steps. Harry Donoghue gets involved and enjoys his footy and the team environment.
Taylah Isbister’s has gained confidence in attack and defence a champion for try assists (off loads).
Jed Newman has been very consistent in attack and defence – a straight runner who has grown in confidence over the season.
Flynn Pack-McLucas has been strong and determined in attack, likes to line up his tackles and crunches them over the sideline.
Charlie Clarke has an elusive change of direction, always helps out in tackles and will have another year in the side.
One game to go against Queanbeyan Blues. Thanks to Coach Kailum Hall, assistant coaches Bones Newman, Graham Hall and sports trainer/manager Casey Blayden.
Special thanks to the parents and families of the Mighty Whites for supporting them throughout the season.
Under 6 Grey
Bella played hard and scored a try and concentrated the whole game. Megan ran well and made some good tackles she was also a good dummy half. Lucas was strong as ever and had a target on him every time he got the ball but still managed to score some tries.
Trae once again zigged and zagged his way up the field and was big in defence against the bigger kids.
But the two players who were a stand out today were the twins Mark and Troy. They both scored tries were keen in defence and played the whole game also.
So once again a happy coach well done team one more game to go.
Under 6 Black
The U6 Black played against Gungahlin Yellow. What a season!
The U6 black played their last game for the year due to next week’s bye.
The team could not be happier with the improvement and development of its little champions under the guidance of super coach Jamie Luckie.
The undefeated season started with a bang. Led early and went try for try against the Bulls and ended up coming away with a hard fought victory.
The future of the Magpies is in good hands.
The team could not have got through the season without its coach, supportive staff and parents. The team looks forward to celebrating the achievements at the end of year presentations.
Under 8s
The U8s were unable to come away with a win against the Woden Rams, losing 50–20. They are always a well drilled, tough competition.
The boys took the field and were slow off the mark, which hurt them. The Rams racked up 16 points in the first quarter.
The second quarter was marginally better with Alex Bell breaking through their defence for a try, converted by Jack Ryan, who was second in defence for the day.
Jack Jamieson was next across the line and was best in defence on the day. The Rams crossed for another two tries.
The third quarter seen Angus Kelly break through the defence to cross the line, who also put one of the better defensive efforts in. The Rams crossed for another two tries.
The boys were tired in the final quarter, but it didn’t stop an under-the-weather Sutherland Holliday carrying the defence to the line for the final try of the day, which was converted by Angus Kelly.
The Rams unfortunately ran in another three tries.
The remainder of the boys – Liam Beeten, George Foran, William Hall, Takai Chatfield, Brodie Poidevin Warden and Tyler Smith – all put in a supportive effort with some great runs and strong tackles.
The team takes on the Tuggeranong Buffaloes Gold team this weekend at 9am at home in the final game of the season.
Under 9s
The U9s travelled to Kippax to go up against Westies.
It was a nail bitting game, matching try for try with the Magpies taking the win 44–40.
Will showed the home team that he was the one to watch, outpacing the opposition to find the try line a massive five times and then backing it up with strong defence and taking out Player of the Day.
Jett showed Westies his powerful strength, breaking through their defence and crossing the try line twice and turning around to make some hard tackles.
Abbie and Lochie also showed Westies that they meant business by running the ball hard and tough.
James put another four points on the board when he broke through Westies defence and found the try line.
The whole team this week was on fire and showed the sideline what they can do when they put their minds to it. Conversions this week went to Cody, Max, Lochie, Jett, Abbie and James.
Under 10s
The U10s travelled to Bungendore last Sunday to take on the second-placed Tigers.
After losing to them in the first round, Yass was keen to test themselves against a competition heavyweight.
In a great team performance Yass were victorious 32–24.
Tries were scored by Joey Timmer, Connor Shepherd, Jaylen Bell, Tom Jamison, Kyle Shoard and Sean Bell. Conversions by Connor, Jaylen, Baxton Lane and Hunter Stansfield.
Jayda Danilczak, Will Downey and Josh Inkster all went within millimeters of scoring themselves while Branden Davis demolished anyone silly enough to run straight at him.
The teams defence has improved dramatically after they have spent the last month at training doing nothing but defence drills and it is showing. The team are finding their groove at the right time of the season leading into the semi-finals.
Yass play the ladder-leading Belconnen Sharks this Sunday in Yass. A win will have them cement a spot in the top two.
Under 12s
The U12s played away at Kaleen last Sunday against the Bears. Both sides only fielded 12 players and three Yass boys played up from the U11s.
Yass was lead on the field by captain Lane Davis.
Yass got off to a scratchy start but midway through the first half started to connect. Some awesome offloading by a few of the boys made for some exciting play.
Big hits in defence were again a strong point, with some impressive tackling. Yass’ kicking game came into play a couple of times, with some good cross field kicks by Timmy to set up tries.
Tries went to Daniel, Brad, Timmy and Lucas. Goals went to Noah, Lane and Brad.
Once again all the boys had a great attitude and worked together well as a team. A special mention goes to Joe who had a great game being quite involved with some good runs and making some good tackles. Well done Joe.
What a great display it was, with Yass coming away with the win 30–8.
Thank you to Brad, Dane and Lucas, who all had great games. The most impressive part of the game for me was watching how Lane was organising the runs for all the boys in the second half to get them involved in the team victory. As well, as the stats indicated, everyone had strong participation.
Well done to all boys.
