A Current Affair reporter Ben McCormack pleads guilty to child porn charges

Former A Current Affair reporter Ben McCormack has pleaded guilty to two child porn offences.

McCormack faced Sydney's Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday and was met with a scrum of cameras as he silently walked up Elizabeth Street with his lawyer Sam Macedone.

Mr Macedone told Magistrate Jennifer Atkinson that his client will enter two pleas of guilty after he was able to agree on a set of facts with the prosecution.

Ms Atkinson told McCormack to stand up, and instructed him he was committed to the District Court for sentencing.

"Your next court date will be on the 6th of October at the District Court in Sydney," Ms Atkinson said.

McCormack appeared relieved following the plea, smiling and greeting one of the journalists he recognised in the court room.

Mr Macedone said outside the court the charges related to "fantasy talk" and McCormack had never traded images of children.

"Ben has always admitted to what he's done, however the facts weren't exactly correct," Mr Macedone said.

"I just wanted to make it quite clear that there was never any images that were traded between Ben and anyone else of any child exploitation material. It was nothing more than fantasy talk, but no transporting of images.

"That's what I wanted, that's what we've got, so we're now pleading guilty and we'll move on from that."

McCormack was pursued again by cameras as he hopped into a waiting four-wheel-drive outside court. The car began to drive away before the front passenger door had closed.

The 43-year-old was arrested in April, on his way to work, and charged with two counts of using a carriage service to transmit, publish or promote child pornography.

Detectives from the sex crimes squad searched his home and A Current Affair's offices at Channel 9 in Willoughby before he was released on strict bail conditions.

McCormack was suspended by his employer following his arrest. He has since resigned.
