In the Riverina and Monaro, we have a rich military history.
Private Allan Lester Buckmaster, born in Yass, was a member of the 44th Australian Infantry Battalion who saw conflict in France and tragically did not make it home.
Lance Corporal Harold Williamson was another who did not make it home. A member of the 1st Australian Infantry Battalion, he was one of thousands of men who perished in the Gallipoli Campaign.
Their stories are not forgotten.
Thanks to the Australian War Memorial, we are able to look up online and see in person the collection of artifacts and memorabilia that have been donated and are now on display.
The War Memorial has so many items that only three percent of it is out for us to see currently. Frankly, I would like to see more of it.
This Rememberance Day, I encourage everyone to take the time to either attend the War Memorial or go online and take a look at what our history shows us.
Without those such as Private Buckmaster and Lance Corporal Williamson, we would not have the life we have now.
Encourage our youth to wear a poppy, go and take the time to see the War Memorial or check out the War Memorial website.
Ensure that their sacrifices were not in vain.
Lest we forget.
