Each field on Walker Park was split in two, to allow twice the number of games to be played. By 6pm, every field was completely full as Yass showed its love of the sport. 

The weather threatened to turn each of the matches into a slippery affair, with clouds brewing and intermittent, but very light, drizzle blowing across the fields from time to time. 

However, it thankfully held off and allowed the players to move with relative confidence on dry fields. 

This was a particular relief for some of the younger teams, who put on a dazzling display of footwork and ran circles around the older warhorses who were there for the fun and camaraderie. 

One such example was the Full Barramundi. Mostly comprised of young, agile players, they possessed ample footspeed and ball skills to dominate the aptly-named Sawneez in their first match of the season. 

The Sawneez are comprised mostly of older, weathered players, but team member Al Phemister said that the scoreline didn’t matter, and that they played “for fun, we don’t take it too seriously.” 

Touch football takes place every Wednesday night, and the 2017 season will run for eight weeks.
