A large turnout celebrated the Yass Junior Rugby Union club’s 2017 presentation day on October 14, which recognised all players and volunteers during a strong season.

“This year has been something that everyone involved in the club should be proud of and we would like to extend our thanks to you all,” club president Josh Leighton said.
“Also we would like to thank the support from the Brumbies and ACT Junior Rugby today, specifically to Blake Evener, James Dargaville and, of course, Brumby Jack for attending today.
“A big thank you to our sponsors for supporting us over the year, you contribution is invaluable in running our club,” he said.
The new Volunteer of the Year Award honours the late Cheryl Harris, which recognises her effort in going above and beyond.
Joh McColl, the club’s canteen manager, was also praised for her hours of organising and running the canteen.
The Ken and Sue White Club Person of the Year award went to Mr Leighton.
“To avoid being self congratulatory, I wish to thank everyone on making my role as president so enjoyable. I do feel very honoured to receive this award and look forward to seeing you all again next year,” he said.
Under 7s
This team was made up of nearly new players to the club who are just starting their rugby journey.
“We would like to welcome all the new players and hope you have enjoyed your rugby this year, we have all certainly enjoyed watching.
“Thanks to Phil, Sally, Amanda, and Chriso for their help this year,” Mr Leighton said.
Under 8s
In their first year of contact rugby, the U8s showed exception skill and determination losing only two games during the ACTJRU season.
There are a lot of talented young players playing in this side and look like they will be constantly featuring in the finals in the future. Thanks to Nick and Josh for the season.

Under 10s
What a year for the U10s making it through to the semis. It is particularly impressive considering half of the team was playing against older teams.
Well done on a fantastic year and good luck in future seasons. Thanks to Troy, Andrew, and Jan for their efforts this year.

Under 11s
It was a tough year for the U11s; however, the club would like to let everyone know how proud we are of the team.
The commitment and character showed by the players is something that can't be coached and is definitely something that the club values extremely highly.

Under 12s – Yass Rosary Rams
Our first combined side had a great year and the club would like to thank Rosary for the effort they went to organising the team.
A big thanks to Nick and Caroline Andersen for coordinating the Yass Boys.

Under 13s – Northern Barbarians
The Northern Barbarians are a side made of of players from Uni Norths, Goulburn, Gungahlin, and of course Yass.
This team despite the obvious obstacles with coordinating, this team had an exception year making it all the way through to the grand final.
Congratulations to all involved, this team is a shining example of what can happen in community rugby.
