Yass Police Inspector Alison Brennan said officers will be in attendance on both days for traffic-control purposes and to ensure attendees enjoy the event.
The Dragon Dreaming Festival in Wee Jasper on November 3–6 will also involve police presence.
Inspector Brennan said police operations to combat drug-related crimes, particularly possession of illicit drugs, and anti-social behaviour at the event will be similar to 2016, which was a six-day operation.
In 2016, 116 drug detections were made by the Hume Local Area Command. It was an increase from 78 in 2015, which involved the death of a 23-year-old woman from Sydney.
Along with the 116 detections, police laid 42 drug charges, gave 44 Cannabis Cautions and five charges relating to drug supply.
Two people were also taken to hospital with suspected drug-related mental health issues.
“We’re hoping it’d be better this year, but I’d just like to remind locals and visitors to behave themselves and follow common sense, like drinking in moderation” Inspector Brennan said.
“Police will be in the area all weekend,” she said.
Inspector Brennan also cited Classic Yass (November 4–5) and the 40th annual Burrinjuck Convention on October 31st as major events that police officers will have a presence.
At the Gundaroo Music Festival on October 14, Inspector Brennan praised attendees for being well behaved.
