Yass man Corby Ben Bruggerman, 25, appeared via audio visual link and pleaded guilty to having an expired licence, using an unregistered motor vehicle on the road and using an uninsured motor vehicle on the road.
Goulburn Local Court heard Bruggerman had driven to the United Petroleum in Yass about 3.30pm on August 5 when his car did not re-start. Despite receiving help, the green Hyundai Sedan was unable to start or be pushed.
Police arrived on the scene about 4pm. Bruggerman, upon seeing the police, fled on foot down Warroo Road. Facts tendered revealed police did not chase Bruggerman as he was well-known to police.
Two out of the four tyres were bald, the engine was leaking excessive oil, and the steering wheel and column was partially dismantled. The car was also uninsured and unregistered.
“You knew you didn’t have a licence; you knew you couldn’t drive. The vehicle was terribly unroadworthy, so it takes it out of the ordinary category,” Magistrate Geraldine Beattie said.
She fined Bruggerman $1350. He faces a six-month disqualification when out of custody in February.
