“Winning this award means so much. It is a credit to the hard work and training myself, and the team who have supported me, have gone through,” Ms Patmore said.
“More than anything, it inspires me to continue to work harder in the tourism industry, something that will benefit Yass Valley for the future,” she said.
The Young Achiever Award recognises individuals, 30 years of age or younger, for their contribution to the development of a successful and professional Canberra or region tourism and events industry.
“We are beyond delighted to see Georgia win this award and to be recognised for her involvement in the Yass Valley and Canberra Region tourism industry,” Yass Valley mayor Rowena Abbey said.
“Combining university study (tourism and events) with full-time employment and a traineeship at council, which includes a certificate three and four in tourism and hospitality, is testament to Georgia’s commitment to one of Australia’s fastest growing industries,” Cr Abbey said.
Yass Valley’s Information Centre was again recognised in the ‘Visitor Information Services’ category, being awarded a Commendation at the 2017 Awards ceremony.
This continued recognition of excellence for Yass Valley’s Information Centre, with four awards in 2014–17 (two wins and two commendations).
These awards acknowledge the commitment of Yass Valley Council and the tourism industry to developing a broader regional approach to the Canberra Region tourism sector from which the Yass Valley economy can benefit and the community can have an opportunity to enjoy world class experiences on their doorstep.
The NSW Business Awards were also held on Friday night, with an awards ceremony in Sydney.
Representing Yass Valley were Clementine Restaurant, Six8 Coffee Roasters and Yass Valley Tyre Service, who after winning local business awards were competing against businesses from across the state.
“While none of our businesses walked away with an award in their respective categories, they represented Yass Valley with distinction and should be exceptionally proud of all that they have achieved,” Cr Abbey said.
