A 78-year-old local man has been airlifted to a Canberra hospital in a critical condition following a single vehicle accident on the Hume Highway.

The accident happened about 7.30am near the intersection of Burley Griffin Way, Bowning.
The man sustained a head, pelvic, leg and arm injury, Inspector Ben Hutchinson from NSW Ambulance said.
The Hume Highway was down to a single lane, heading south, near the intersection at 10am.
The public is advised to reduce their speed limit to 40 kilometres per hour while passing emergency service vehicles with flashing lights and sirens.
Allow extra time and exercise caution.
