Just days before the fire, Rotary had donated funds to the Do Good Friday group of year 10 students to buy paint for the murals they were working on at Valmar Support Services – but that paint was destroyed in the school fire that has devastated staff and students.
Rotarian Nick Mironov saw the need to replace the tools and equipment used by the group and launched an appeal for garden tools and equipment, along with hand tools, paint and brushes.
A collection bin at Home Hardware soon started to fill up with tools, both new and used, to put the students back on track with their vital.
Yass Rotary members voted to donate gate takings from the last Farmers Market to the school as well. The presentation was made to the principal, Sandra Hiscock, in the ashes of the burnt out building.
“We really appreciate the support from Rotary, which underlines the great relationship we have had with them in the past,” Ms Hiscock said
Ms Hiscock continued, “these tools and the cash donation will go a long way towards helping the year 10 students to complete the work which is an important part of their community involvement.”
