She has taken up residence at the Yass Hospital, two days per week, to offer pre and post natal care for mums.
The Yass Outreach Midwifery Program, in partnership with Canberra hospitals, can offer information on birth options, support during pregnancy, and referral support after you have your baby.
Mrs Cotter said she was very happy to be in Yass.
“We own some land near here, so when the opportunity came up for this position I thought it would be a great way to get to know the community.
“Midwifery is all about community,” she added.
Mrs Cotter’s appointment has come after lobbying from local community members and a review of health services by Southern NSW Local Health District.
An official launch of the program will be held next Thursday at 3pm at the hospital, but Mrs Cotter is already seeing patients.
Appointments are on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and should be made by phoning reception at Yass Hospital on 6220 2000.
