The program will now be open to girls aged 11–16 years old. SIRU stated that the expansion is to cater to all interested players. It comes after the SIRU board approved the proposal on Monday, February 6.
“The board sees this as a great opportunity to further promote women’s rugby in our zone,” ACT Brumbies development officer Seth Stoltenberg said.
The three-week program aims to get girls into rugby union, starting with training and finishing with rugby 7s games. The 2017 program also includes the assistance from a national player.
“We are very lucky to have Aussie 7s superstar and Olympic Gold Medalist Alicia Quirk helping out on the final week in Wagga,” the SIRU stated on its Facebook page.
All registered girls will receive a drink bottle and bucket hat.
