Spider, recovering from hamstring problems and other minor aching issues, said he is still keen to take on 43-year-old Paul Winston from Wollongong.
Spider said Winston would prove a tough competitor as he has trained with top boxers such as Danny Jones and Steven Douet, a former world champion in kickboxing and a champion in boxing.
“I reckon my chances of winning are 50-50. I’ll give it my best. Paul and I both are only one punch away from getting knocked out,” he said.
The latest bout is one of a string in recent months after he came out of retirement in February 2017.
Spider conceded his training leading into this latest fight had not been ideal. “Training hasn’t been really good. I’ll be going in with injuries, but I won’t let them stop me,” he said.
The tournament is a three-day amateur boxing championship, conducted under the sanctioning of Combat Sports and Boxing Australia NSW.
It is run in accordance with International Boxing Association rules.
Spider’s fight with Winston will begin at 3pm on April 22. This will be his final fight before traveling to Queensland for the state masters.
