Guests included the Murrumbateman Satellite and Lions, Probus, Yass High School, Interact Club and the president of the Rotaract Club (soon to be chartered).
President Terry Butler awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship to Mick Broers for his work in the community over many years, from the Blue Light Discos to Relay for Life.
Rotarian Melina Waters was also awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship in recognition of her untiring work behind the scenes in club service. Melina is also involved in other community groups, especially CanAssist.
Mr Butler then inducted Peter Gibbs as the club president for 2017–18. This is Mr Gibbs’ second time in the leadership role – his previous presidency was in 1986–87.
The emphasis this year will be on involvement rather than attendance. It also includes chaning the meeting structure to involve less formality, more family involvement with more projects aimed at the whole of Yass Valley.
With the launch of the Rotary Club of Yass’ Satellite Club in Murrumbateman in 2016, there are two members of the board who are members of the original group that formed the satellite club.
