Truck fire causes closure of Burley Griffin Way

Yass Fire and Rescue 511, Goulburn 305, Harden 389, Bowning RFS, and Binalong RFS crews were all in attendance.

The driver managed to disconnect his trailers, which were full of wine, and move the prime mover away from his load.

Goulburn and Harden Crews assisted in decanting the fuel from the prime mover so it could be towed safely away.

Yass Fire and Rescue thanked all the crews involved.

Update at 6.51pm

One lane of Burley Griffin Way has reopened.

The road was closed in both directions due to the fire near Red Hill Road.

Motorists from both directions are now able to pass the site under stop/slow traffic control.

Emergency services remain at the site.

Truck fire causes hazard at 5.07pm

Burley Griffin Way is closed in both directions at Bowning due to a truck fire near Red Hill Road.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

Diversions are placed in both directions.

Motorists can use the Hume Highway, Muttama Road, Gundagai Road and the Olympic Highway as an alternative route but will need to allow an additional 90 minutes of travel time.

Eastbound light vehicles can use Jugiong Road and then Hume Highway.

Emergency services and the RMS are at the site.

Traffic crews are also responding.
