Early in the morning, Remount members and employees gathered at the War Memorial, where it was announced that the not-for-profit group had secured sponsorship from Lockheed Martin Australia.
Remount does important work, and aims to ease the burden of ex-military members who are suffering from stress related to their service, PTSD, or injury.
Ben Farinazzo, a beneficiary of the Remount program run earlier this year, spoke about the importance of the program for veterans and their families.
“It was absolutely inspiring,” Mr Farinazzo said. “It was a great opportunity to reconnect with yourself and to learn more about yourself and manage your emotional state.”
“It was about connection with the Australian bush and the broader environment.”
Ben Maguire, founder of Remount, said that it was vital for the organisation to secure funds in order for them to continue helping Australia’s military members, and in so doing show gratitude for their service.
“It’s a way of us acknowledging their sacrifice and their service, so we feel very privileged to be able to provide Remount,” Mr Maguire said.
“It has a lot of impact on people who come here, so it’s a great mix.”
Mr Maguire got the inspiration for Remount from a former US Marine Colonel named John Mayer, who runs a similar program in the US.
“He [Mayer] just inspired us to see what programs like this can do … we became good friends, and he is still in contact today.”
