Each year from January to December the Yass Library employs a junior library assistant as part of a 12-month work experience placement.
This is an interesting part-time job in a public library where you get to talk to others about books and help people to find information.
The successful student gains valuable customer service experience, cash handling skills and the opportunity to work in a team environment.
To be eligible to apply for the job the applicant needs to be in Year 10 or 11 in 2018.

The position is a 12-month placement and applicants must be able to start work in January 2018. The hours are Thursday 4pm to 7pm and Saturday 10am to 1pm with some possible additional work during school holidays.
I asked one of our previous junior library assistants, Kali, to jot down a few points about what she loved about her 12 months at Yass Library and this is what she came up with…
- Met incredible people (both customers and staff)
- Gained skills, confidence and experience in lots of new aspects that were foreign to me before.
- Got closer to the community and the people in it.
- Learnt something new every day.
- Worked with and around something I love: books!
If you are interested in applying for the job (or know someone else who would be) applications are available from the Yass Library or from Council’s website www.yassvalley.nsw.gov.au/council/positions-vacant

Applications close on Monday, November 6.
