Binalong will take on the Aussie Pirates in this weekend’s Sweeney Cup fixture, making it a top-versus-bottom clash which most would expect to go in favour of the former.
However, Binalong veteran batsman Mark Dyball is remaining cautious about his team’s prospects this week.
“The Sweeney’s a good comp, because it’s pretty even,” he said.
“They’ve [the Pirates] got a couple of players in their side that could be handy enough, you sort of can’t take any of them for granted.”
Although Dyball was modest about the disparity between the Pirates and Binalong that has been evident to this point in the season, he explained that much of their success has come down to each player performing their role successfully.
“It’s the same side we’ve had the last few seasons,” Dyball said.
“Everyone’s doing their job; the top order are making a few runs and the bowlers are bowling well.”
In particular, Dyball explained, the success of the top five batsmen has allowed Binalong to play with more freedom than usual this year.
The fixture between Binalong and the Aussie Pirates will take place in Binalong at 12:30 on December 16.
