One, which is still out of control, is north of Yass on Wargeila Road. This fire broke out at approximately 2:15pm today, said NSW RFS Operational Officer of the Southern Tablelands Zone, Daniel Osborne.
Mr Osborne said that fire fighters are “currently working to control and contain the fire.”
“At this stage there’s no threat to life or property out there, but any residents in the immediate vicinity should monitor the situation and be ready to implement their Bushfire Survival Plan should the situation deteriorate.”
Mr Osborne added that the crews were “quite confident they’ll contain it shortly.”
The cause of the fire is currently unknown to authorities, but Mr Osborne said that it will be investigated “in due course”.
The second fire, which started on Sunday afternoon, is south of Yass near Burrinjuck.
It began during the lightning storm which struck late yesterday as a direct result of a lightning strike.
“Following the initial call to that [fire], we launched a Rapid Aerial Response Team from the Hume Helibase in the ACT,” Mr Osborne said.
“They attended and winched down into the national park there where the tree was and the remote area firefighters … worked with the assistance of an aircraft that was bombing that tree and that area.”
The fire is under control and is currently under the supervision of the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service.
“We’ll have a detection and reconnaisence flight tomorrow morning,” Mr Osborne added.
