The winds caused major tree damage to the grounds, where two SES crews attended.
“Remember to always be aware of your surroundings when you pitch your tent. There was a young lady who was lucky to be alive after a tree fell on her tent,” Yass SES said.
Yass Police, Yass Valley Council and energy services also attended.
On Saturday, two crews (nine volunteers) returned to the site and spent the day to continue with clearing the damage.
Mick and Michelle Waters at Wee Jasper Reserves thanked the community effort in helping with the cleanup.
“We need to thank some people for what they have done to help us thus far.
“The SES, Yass Police, the Yass Valley Council, Chris and Billy Beck, our staff Jack and Peter, a special mention to Kim.
“Also our neighbours Neil, Peter and Janet Carey; the Holloway family; and of course the Wee Jasper Community. But most importantly the guests who were here with us – you are all troopers. We are very humbled,” they said.
Yass Valley Council thanked emergency services staff and residents for their effort.
“Staff have worked through the night to clean up the damage left by yesterday's storm. A huge shoutout to residents who were out helping. The amount of damage across the LGA is amazing and our staff were stretched,” the council said.
