Canberra Elvis will be performing at the Yass Soldiers Club on Saturday, March 3 at 6.30pm as part of the Elvis Fundraising Concert.
It will be his final performance and all proceeds will go to YVCA.
Canberra Elvis, also known as Garry Buckley, will be performing free of charge.
He has been a strong supporter of fundraising efforts in Yass Valley, with his previous attendance being the Bowning Country Fair in November 2017.
Elvis did a similar event two years ago and it’ll be sad that this will be his last gig ever.
- Geoff Frost, Yass Valley Can Assist president
For more than 19 years, Mr Buckley has brought back the memories of Elvis through his show ‘One night with you’.
He is described as having a stage presence that draws the audience to him and his shows capture the energy and dynamics of a genuine Elvis concert.
“Yass Can Assist will be benefiting from this fun-filled event,” the organisation stated on Facebook.
YVCA has known Canberra Elvis for about 4–5 years. “The transformation is magical. He looks nothing like Elvis, but after he comes out of the makeup room, he’s no doubt Elvis. It’s just magic,” Yass Valley councillor and YVCA president Geoff Frost said.
He said they expected a strong turnout.
“Elvis did a similar event two years ago and it’ll be sad that this will be his last gig ever,” Cr Frost said.
“He’s been a good supporter and we’ll be providing him dinner and drinks.”
He said the previous event was a success.
“We made it successful last time, with the Soldiers Club helping out.
“They provided additional funds per ticket, so they’re also really supportive – not only in hosting but also making contributions,” Cr Frost said.
He encouraged residents to attend what should be a fun night.
“The more people who come, the more we’ll raise for cancer patients,” he said.
Tickets are available to purchase at the Soldiers Club. Prices:
- Adult: $20 each
- Under 16 years of age: $10
In 2007, Mr Buckley won the hotly contested ‘Best Elvis look-a-like’ at the Parkes Elvis Festival.
He has performed before a number of dignitaries including former Prime Mister Bob Hawke and the American Ambassador to Australia.
