Kim Nelson, much beloved community activist and local artist, would have been turning 60 this March. His absence is still a raw pain to those who knew and loved him; in spite of this, his friends and family have decided to throw a ‘Festival of Kim’ birthday celebration in his honour.

The Yass community are warmly welcomed to gather at Tootsie Fine Art and Design on Saturday March 10 from 9.30am to 4.30pm, with live music from Canberra band, Autonomous Tones, from 2-4pm.
Those feeling brave should don their ‘super costumes’ as a tribute to Kim, who was often sighted with a Superman t-shirt peeking out from under his jacket.
The event will also be a fundraiser for UNICEF, the world’s leading organisation working to protect and improve the lives of every child in over 190 countries. Kim believed in the work of UNICEF, and was a regular donor.
In addition to money raised on the day, YASSarts will be donating $5,000 – half of the amount raised at the ‘Best Foot Forward’ Dunlop Volley auction held in Kim’s memory at Tootsie in September 2016.
The other $5,000 raised from the Dunlop auction is being put towards a bench and permanent labyrinth installation in Riverbank Park, which will both be dedicated to Kim.
Looking back on all Kim accomplished and contributed, it’s easy to agree he was a real-life superhero. He gave his time, energy and expertise to support others, especially artists and young people.
Please come along to the Festival of Kim – a fundraiser for a worthy cause and a celebration of community, kindness, creativity and Kim.
